There is Hope !

Things are looking up for us Americans. We have seen in the proceeding week the culmination of what I am sure is the hard work of many. Health Care reform, although we know it will be watered down, seems possible. Our president has the respect and admiration of the rest of the world, so who cares what Murdoch and his minions think, say or do.

Today the Dow Jones Industrial average broke through the 10,000 mark for the first time in slightly over a year. The dollar is being beaten up bad around the world, but who cares, gold is over a thousand dollars an once and all us smart people have sold all of our gold and took our payment in good old greenbacks, we are Americans after all. ( that was sarcasm, a new thing I’m trying)

Yes, with the few things that have transpired over the last week or so it is easy to say things are on the upswing.

The Nobel Committee, having been criticized around the globe for bestowing Obama with a yet deserved honor, may have been betting on the future rather than grading on the past. Is that wisdom or what?

Music sounds better, food is more delicious and all the people I know seem prettier. The world is near perfect. Or is it?

Perspective is a delicate and personal thing. One can cock ones head and cover one eye and distort what one sees. We can take things to mean just about anything we want, true or not, it’s personal and like poetic license it is nobody's business how we tilt our head or obstruct our view. It is the way you and I wish to see it, therefore to us, that is what it is.

Why not look to the future with goofy optimism and child like enthusiasm? Why should we focus on the negative? I don’t know why we do, well I know why we are reminded to be scared and skeptical, but why do we fall for that one. If it ain’t the oldest in the book, it’s a close runner up.

I have seen the oppositions play book and it’s as predictable as sunrise tomorrow. What I have come to realize is, the naysayer and haters are using an old but effective method of political warfare. They are protecting the status quo by keeping the administration on the defense and answering all sorts of ridiculous accusations. It could be termed Rovian in design and function.

Keep flinging the most vile and baseless charges in the general direction of your target and they will abandon any progress to fall into the default defensive position. The more baseless and merit lacking the accusations are, the more difficult they are to ignore. But ignoring them is how you neutralize such poppycock. The trick is to trust the American People to be able to decipher the nonsense and properly categorize it as such and thereby undermine the creditability of the sources of such “news”.

Then the next step is to administer a bit of the radical rights medicine to them. Take a lesson from one lawmaker that appears to have figured this out. Alan Grayson from Florida’s 8th congressional district seems to have what his colleagues lack. Balls.

He stood on the floor of the house and did something that apparently has been left out of the Democratic plays and strategies book. He took the essence of what his opposition has been doing and threw it back at them and when the insincere uproar demanded an apology, he refused. He then further clarified his position by not mincing his words or softening his touch in the face of a media uproar. He stood and proclaimed the cost of lack of action as it relates to health care reform, in the numbers of dead Americans the opposition will be responsible for if they halt progress. And still he didn’t apologize and cower in the face of the coming uproar, he stood his ground and dared anyone to debate the issue. He had no takers.

I looked into this Grayson dude and found some interesting things about him. He was raised in the Bronx New York and was once literally thrown under a bus by a bully when he was a youngster. He survived that and went on to score the highest score on a test given to all graduating seniors in the Bronx, some 50,000 students. He attended Harvard and then went into practice as a lawyer and later a prosecutor. He’s one of those genuine smart, tough, brave good guys

He sued companies that were cheating the government. In one case the losing corporation was ordered to return some 10 million dollars to the Federal Government of ill gotten gains . He’s a fighter and his fellow lawmakers should take a lesson from Representative Grayson on what public service is. It is serving the interest of the people not watching every step you make in an attempt to insure re-election. I say give em hell Grayson !

Grayson has a tilted head perspective and it appears that his tilt affords him a better view of the playing field than others on capitol hill. He sees things like I do, perhaps as you do.

What do you think?
